Description
Guided tour Jacquemart Andre Museum
Can one imagine that in the middle of Boulevard Haussmann, a stone’s throw from Monceau Park, is a very special private mansion which contains the largest private art collection in Paris? This museum owes its existence to the banker Edouard Andre and the painter Nelie Jacquemart, a couple with a passion for 18th century art who, since their marriage in 1881, did not stop travelling in Europe and the East in order to gather paintings and other kinds of objects. 16 rooms are currently accessible to the public, preserved as when their owners lived there.
This museum offers a double interest: It is an immense work of art itself, containing hundreds of collectors’ items. At the entrance, you are welcomed by two of Boucher’s powerful paintings: Venus Asleep and The Toilet of Venus. Your guide will then take you across the large living room to appreciate its marble busts, before visiting several small rooms (the chamber, the boudoir, the music room, etc) where the most eclectic elements are gathered: English paintings (neglected in France), a Louis XVth chest, canvases of Rembrandt and other Flemish Masters. After the smoking-room, you will go up to the first floor in order to discover Nelie’s workshop and its collection of Italian sculptures.
Free access to temporary exhibition The Twilight of Pharaohs from 23 March to 23 July 2012.

École des Beaux-arts - Paris
The special feature of the “Beaux Arts” is that its purpose is not only to show (as a museum) but also to teach (as a school). Each statue, painting or building, has a hidden pedagogic value, besides its cultural aspect, that our guide will gladly let you discover such as the tombs of the Chapel of the Praises, the Last Judgement of Michelangelo created by Sigalon (whose accomplishment caused his death) or even the door of the “Chateau de Diane de Poitiers”. The principal art styles and epochs are presented to you, accompanied by the anecdotes of your guide which will demystify the dominant features of the Classical paintings and Baroque sculptures, particular to the Academy.
Initially installed in the Louvre, then moved to the “Convent of Petits Augustins”, the “Beaux Arts” reunites several buildings, one of which was the first French museum to be opened to the public. If Ingres the painter and Duban the architect are the figureheads of this fairytale-like place, the “Beaux-Arts” combine inspiration from many others artists in the world. The collections of the Masters (more than 500.000 works, including those of Rembrandt or Raphaël) and the buildings are a constant source of inspiration for the artists who study there: how could one not learn amidst the polychromic glass courtyard, the Amphitheatre of Honour and the “Hotel de Chimay” where Matisse himself learned how to draw!

Lido de Paris - Paris
Way before the birth of the great cabarets in France, the tradition of the « cafe concert » broke the social barriers of a time through popular cultural entertainment in a cafe ambience. Inspired by this tradition and by that of Music Hall, the Clerico brothers opened the Lido on the Champs-Elysees in 1946. Thus was invented the now famous dinner show format, and the revues followed, each more spectacular than the previous one. The cabaret was reinvented and the legend of Paris nightlife was created.
Don’t judge a book by its cover! Behind this cheery, superficial Parisian image of the Lido lies an extremely complex organisation. The backstage tour of this legendary cabaret will take you where few people go, into the costume rooms full of flamboyant costumes, reserved for its dancers, costume designers and makeup artists. Your guided tour will then show you around the building with its unique architecture. You will be stunned by the complex set of pulleys, plates and giant elevators used to widen the stage and transform the sets. It’s simply magical! Who would resist the temptation of the dinner show after such an exciting visit?
