At the dawn of the 80th anniversary of the Appeal of 18 June, the "Comme en 40…" exhibit at the Musée de l'Armée - Hôtel National des Invalides looks back on a pivotal year in the history of the Second World War.

What was the soldiers' uniform? What were French people listening to on the radio? What was the identity (or identities) of a country divided by the Vichy regime? To answer these questions, your guide will tell you all about the daily lives of men and women affected by the complex events of 1940. Throughout your guided visit, you'll discover a number of posters, tracts, radio shows and films that have left their mark and serve today as a testimonial to the real-time perceptions of an important period in the history of France.

The year 1940, best-known for its Appeal from General de Gaulle, actually included a number of challenges both in France and in other countries. This guided visit offers you an immersive journey into the centre of this sombre yet passionate time, thanks to more than 240 relics and multimedia devices. From the "Phony War" to Free France, come discover this exceptional exhibit which shines a light on the paradoxes of 1940.
