Private visit of the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris

As a special honour, you will be able to submerse yourself in the world of the famous couturier, Yves Saint Laurent, outside the usual public opening hours.

On 3rd October 2017, on the historic site of this house of haute couture, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris opens its doors. This is the first museum of such size entirely dedicated to the work of one of the most famous couturiers of the 20th century. Over 450m² it celebrates both the creative genius of the couturier and the process of creating an haute couture collection.

A true pioneer, Yves Saint Laurent was the only creator of his generation to archive all his work from the time he created his haute couture house. Thus, the museum has more than 5,000 haute couture models in its collection. So that the public can fully explore the unique treasure of this heritage, the exhibitions will be changed regularly, reflecting the rhythm of life of the major fashion houses.

Just like Yves Saint Laurent's clients of the time, you will enter the museum through the historic front door of the house. This unique and special moment will take you through sumptuous salons, whose original decor has been preserved.

From 2 October 2018 to 27 January 2019, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris will host its first temporary thematic exhibition, Yves Saint Laurent: Dreams of the Orient.

On a guided visit through this exhibition, you will discover some fifty designs inspired by China, India and Japan, which are shown in conjunction with artistic works from Asia. Your guide will tell you how Yves Saint Laurent, through his collections, managed to create a dream-like vision of distant lands: one that was the fruit of his extraordinary knowledge gained from meticulous research and close, direct study of the continent’s artwork.

During the visit, you will be able to see many notable works. These include his designs that reimagined and reinterpreted Indian sovereigns’ gowns from his very first collections and since, as well as pieces from the Chinese-influenced autumn/winter collection of 1977, and designs inspired by Japan and its traditional kimono robe.
